On a morning marked by wispy clouds in a blue sky, more than 21,000 people -- graduates and their families and friends -- braved gale force winds to celebrate the University of Delaware's 164th Commencement, held Saturday, May 25, at Delaware Stadium. Graduating students from our area included:

More than 2,000 undergraduate, graduate and law students earned their degrees from Hofstra University in Hempstead, this spring. The Class of 2013 celebrated their achievements at commencement ceremonies in the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex.

Local residnets were among the 137 University of Scranton students who completed the Scranton Emerging Leaders program during the 2012-2013 academic year. The program is a series of weekly workshops for students to develop and enhance leadership skills at the Jesuit university. The program focuses on communication, social change and leadership style. The State University of New York at Potsdam recently named 827 students to the President's List, in recognition of their academic excellence in the Spring 2013 semester. The SUNY Potsdam students have been honored for earning top marks by Interim President Dr. Dennis L. Hefner.

The State University of New York at Potsdam awarded nearly 900 undergraduate and graduate degrees during its 2013 Commencement ceremonies on May 18 and 19. SUNY Potsdam honored about 750 students who earned baccalaureate degrees, while another 140 graduate students earned their master's at the College's Commencement weekend. The following students have been selected for inclusion on the Dean's List for academic achievement during the spring semester at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York. To be eligible for the Dean's List at St. Lawrence University, a student must have completed at least four semester units and have an academic average of 3.6 (based on a perfect 4.0 scale) for the semester.

A number of Eastern Connecticut State University students were recently inducted into Eastern's Kappa Mu Epsilon Mathematics Honor Society.

The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, has honored the following Dean's List students for academic excellence during the spring semester of the 2012-2013 academic year. Dean's List recognition is given to those students registered for 12 or more semester hours whose grade point ratio is 3.2 or higher with no grade below a C for the previous semester's work.

The State University of New York at New Paltz will hold the May 2013 Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony on Sunday, May 19 at 10 a.m. on the Old Main Quadrangle. This year, there are 2,059 undergraduate degrees being conferred. There will be more than 1,400 undergraduate candidates participating in the ceremony and celebrating their achievements in the presence of their family and friends. The ceremony will recognize two cohorts of students: August and December 2012 and May and August 2013 candidates.
